Smiths Falls Rink of Dreams a go!

Ottawa Senators Hometown Tour

The rink of dreams is finally happening! The decision was made in Monday’s town council meeting to go forward with the Gerry Lowe Memorial Sens RINK (Recreational Investments in Neighbourhoods for Kids).

The Gerry Lowe Memorial Foundation in Smiths Falls partnered with the Ottawa Senators Foundation to build a free outdoor rink at the corner of Elmsley and Cornelia streets where the old Community Centre once stood. It will be a 200 by 85 foot outdoor rink and will be equipped with permanent boards and overhead lighting.

The rink will be built to accommodate basketball nets, road hockey and other activities during spring, summer and fall. The project is expected to cost $250,000 and will be funded by the aforementioned charitable foundations and additional fundraising efforts. The Town of Smiths Falls is be responsible for on-going maintenance.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the outdoor rink is slated for August 20 from 4:30 to 7 p.m., and the public is welcome. There are unconfirmed rumours that some of the Ottawa Senators players could be in attendance!
