SPORTS: RedHawks pull off double championship

The Junior Boys after Defeating Holy Trinity in Panthers-Falcons Tournament Championship

Cornwall sees Double

The RedHawks pulled off a double championship on the weekend. The teams travelled together to cheer each other on in the Panthers-Falcons Classic in Cornwall – a tournament the RedHawks have won multiple times in the past, but never achieved a combined Junior-Senior championship!

The Seniors defeated Arnprior and LaCitadelle in the preliminary round.  In the semifinals, the Senior Hawks won a thriller against a very athletic and talented St. Lawrence team.  The resilient Hawks continue to fight to the final whistle.  They clawed back from 7 point deficits a number of times in the fourth quarter….the last run forced overtime where the Hawks finally pulled ahead.

In the championship final, the RedHawks overcame the home court advantage of Holy Trinity (along with some home court officiating) and once again showed extreme resilience after fighting back from an early deficit.

The Junior Boys RedHawks, got to be first this time to the championship.  The Hawks defeated the home squad from Holy Trinity, Cornwall, in the final right before the Senior game.  The Juniors controlled a small lead most of the game and held off a number of surges from HT to show their own resilience.

The final result after two SF vs HT finals was a double Smiths Falls RedHawks tournament championship and 25 t-shirts.  In preseason play, the Hawks program has counted for four tournament championship wins.
