Sabrina Bedford A local mom has found a unique way to give back to the hospital that’s taken care of her six-year-old foster daughter since birth. Anjie Valgardson, a foster mother and nurse from Merrickville, satiates a need in the world you probably didn’t even know existed. Valgardson hand-crafts and donates bereavement gowns to the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO). Baby bereavement gowns are worn by young babies who passed away before, during or after birth. Plans are well underway for the 2015 Healthy Living Festival, scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2015, in downtown Smiths Falls.  This year’s event will feature an expanded line up of exciting games and activities, including several new water-based activities, along with many of the favourites from past years like the rock climbing wall and obstacle course. Two Rivers Food Hub Sets Opening Date of Nov. 1

Local growers, processors and buyers will be pleased to learn that the Two Rivers Food Hub (TRFH), located in the Gallipeau Centre in Smiths Falls, will soon be open for business. At a general meeting on Monday, Sept. 22, the TRFH set a target date of Nov. 1 for the opening of the commercial kitchen component of the food hub, moving them one step closer to a fully operational food hub servicing the Lanark Leeds Grenville regions. Today, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., head on over to Good Vibrations Health and Fitness Studio to support our community! The gym, located at 50 Lorne St., will be hosting a fundraiser for the Smiths Falls Hospital physiotherapy department! Running from May – October, the exhibit explore a dental car that was created to provide dental care to children in remote Northern communities.
