Brea Lawrenson at Golden Arrow
9:00pm
“Her pure, powerful, country-tinged voice is full of soul. With just her and her guitar, she really played with the dynamics of the songs – increasing or decreasing her overall volume to create drama. Her repertoire featured a healthy dose of her original songs along with some tunes by Fleetwood Mac, KT Tunstall, and Cam. Overall, I would say that her solo performance had a much more ‘americana’ sound than pure country.” — Rob Riendeau, Pub Crawling, TheHumm, Oct 2015.

Storywork: Telling Tales Rooted in the Land at fieldwork
2:00pm
2 women productions presents a compelling performance in the intimate loft space of Fieldwork’s old barn. Listeners will be carried back to a time when folk and fairy tales were integral to the fabric of cultural life. They will be reminded that, though these stories are increasingly sidelined and forgotten in the bustle of the contemporary world, they are deeply engaging and filled with insight, challenge and delight. The stories will explore, among other things, what the old laird McNab has to do with a hedgehurst, who Hansel and Gretel might really be, whether Rapunzel is more or less than her hair, and the cruelty of older brothers to the youngest. FoSH: Hat Fitz & Cara w/Brock Zeman at ECOTAY Education Centre
3:00pm
Part of the Festival of Small Halls.
Hat Fitz and Cara can in no way be mistaken for a dainty duo. They have been known as festival favourites throughout Canada, Australia, Europe, and the UK, where it has been said they pack more energy into one song than most have in an entire career. This dynamic two piece band are a unique combination that have skilfully combined their hill style Gospel blues with old timey flavourings.
Stripped down to just voices, guitar and vintage drums, Hat Fitz and Cara embellish impeccable rootsy originals with powerful and soulful vocals reminiscent of a time once forgotten. It is not just a live show of their repertoire they share, but a personal invitation into the parody of their lives on the road together, that often has their audiences in tears of Euphoria.
Over the course of 11 albums, Ottawa-area singer songwriter Brock Zeman has built a reputation as a writer of great depth and passion through his thoughtful, often personal songs. Widely regarded as one of Canada’s most prolific songwriters and best-kept secrets, his 2015 release Pulling Your Sword Out of the Devil’s Back was a semifinalist in the International Songwriting Competition and came in second in the The Unsigned Only Competition in 2015. A musical chiller by David Jacklin. In the 1820s, the Olivers ran the ferry and a little inn at a place people called, naturally, Oliver’s Landing. Jimmy Tri-Tone Band at Golden Arrow
9:00pm
“JTTB is James Walters (vocals, guitar, percussion) and Randelle Ashley (bass, keys, mandolin, harmony vocals). James has a fantastic, gravelfilled voice and a really engaging (and slightly menacing) intensity when he performs that is perfectly suited to songs about outlaws, lost loves, and life. Randelle’s piano accompaniments are fluid and suggest that she has spent a lot of time in front of a keyboard. Together, the duo plays a mix of alt-folkcountry originals and rearranged covers that really suit James’ rich baritone. I was really impressed with the songwriting on the originals; there was lots of inventiveness in both the music and the lyrics — like I said, these two work hard.” — Rob Riendeau, Pub Crawling, TheHumm.

Ghost Stories; The Legend of Oliver’s Landing
1:30pm
A musical chiller by David Jacklin. In the 1820s, the Olivers ran the ferry and a little inn at a place people called, naturally, Oliver’s Landing. They did very well with this — you might say, they made a killing at it. Ghost Stories is a full-on, Broadway-style musical, all based on a local legend. It has been a huge success in numerous previous productions
