Hillcrest Cemetery Annual Decoration Day

Hillcrest Cemetery welcomes you to their annual Decoration Day service on Sunday, August 7, 2016.  Join the cemetery for an afternoon of reflection and memorial celebration.  Service begins at 2:00 p.m. at 3540 Highway 43 West, Smiths Falls.

The Hillcrest Cemetery was the private burial ground for one of the earliest Smiths Falls families, the Simpson’s.  William Simpson, patriarch for the Simpson family was hired as a contractor for the development of Rideau Canal through our region.  Purchased in 1869 by the Town of Smiths Falls, this public non-denominational cemetery is now the final resting place to over 10,000 people.

Decoration Day is an opportunity to remember and pay our respects to our loved ones and friends.  A non-denominational service will be offered in partnership with officiant Jill Turnbull and the Smiths Falls Legion Branch 95 Colour Guard in memory of our local veterans.

With great thanks and appreciation the Smiths Falls Hillcrest Cemetery would like to recognize the support of its Decoration Day sponsors: the Town of Smiths Falls, Kinkaid & Loney Monuments, Costello & Company Monuments, Blair & Son Funeral Home, Lannin Funeral Home, Dale Younge Concrete Burial Vaults, Smiths Falls Legion Branch 95 and Jill Turnbull.  For more information, please call: 613-283-4247 or email egraham@smithsfalls.ca.
