3rd Annual Zombie Walk

Join us on our third stagger and stumble through town as the undead gather in support of our local food bank. We will be meeting up at Kinsmen Park. Between Town Hall and the Smiths Falls Library starting at 4pm for registration and food /monetary donation collection. We will head down Beckwith Street as a group then lurch over to Chambers Street ending at Smiths Falls Gym and Fitness Centre for treats and prizes! Coach Brian and his staff will be handing out hot chocolate and cookies donated by C’est Tout Bakery. We will be lead as a group and we will be travelling along the sidewalks. Please respect all traffic laws. **We have many prize ribbons to give out for both adults and children. A food item or cash donation must be presented at registration to participate in the judged contest. This will be REAL’s sixth annual feast of foods produced close to home in Lanark, Leeds and Grenville. This year’s chef will be Amy Rensby of Magnolia Catering, who will be cooking up the buffet dinner in the Two Rivers Food Hub kitchens. The buffet will be served in the Gallipeau Centre “Ballroom”. Enjoy some great entertainment before and after dinner by the band “The British Invasion”. You will also have a chance to bid on some great items in a silent auction, have an optional tour of the Two Rivers facility, meet some of the local producers and mingle with REAL folk! The Sole Sisters Run is donating all proceeds to the Canadian Cancer Society, in the name of cancer research. This event is open to everyone, young or old, male or female must register. Sole Sisters will send each interested donor a report detailing the number of registrants, how many people donated, how much money was We are happy to accept donations at any time, however, please be advised that we will not be issuing charitable donation receipts at this time. We are holding a 2km, a 5 km and a 10 km run/walk. Runs/walks start at 0800, with the 10 km starting first, followed shortly there after by the 5 km, and followed shortly thereafter by the 2 km. All distances start and end at Lower Reach Park in Smiths Falls, Ontario. There will be water and bananas available at the start/finish line. There will also be a water table at about every 3 km of both the 5k route and the 10k route.

Turkey and Train Rides this Thanksgiving

What goes better with turkey than train rides? The Railway Museum of Eastern Ontario is serving up a Thanksgiving weekend like no other! Bring your friends and your out-of-town relatives for a special Thanksgiving train ride
Rides will take place Saturday October 8th and Sunday October 9th from 11 am to 3 pm. Climb aboard a 1940s caboose to discover what it’s like to be pulled by a first-generation diesel engine. A return trip down the track is $5 for 7 years or older, $3 for children 3-6 years & 2 and under ride free!
The museum will be open 10 am to 5 pm each day and admission to the museum is free Saturday and Sunday. The museum will be open Monday October 10th and will close for the season Tuesday October 11th.
This will also be your last chance this season to view our new exhibit: Lost Stations of Eastern Ontario.
This exciting exhibition details the fated history of the railways and their stations in Eastern Ontario as well as the important role that these stations played in the surrounding communities. Like many communities along the line, the railway was an integral part of life. Today much of what remains of the fated railway lines are of the lonely stations peeking out the overgrown rural countryside.
We invite you to come out to the museum on Thanksgiving weekend for some family fun!

5th ANNUAL HERITAGE SYMPOSIUM

“Bridging Hometown Pride with Heritage Assets”
The Smiths Falls Municipal Heritage Committee presents the 5th Annual Heritage Symposium. This year’s theme is “Bridging Hometown Pride with Heritage Assets” and will bring top speakers from across the province including:
Andrew Ross, who has turned his passion for historic bridges into more than 20 years’ experience designing, building and restoring bridges. He will be presenting on the Confederation Bridge.
Carl Bray, a historical consultant, believes that heritage is not an obstacle but an opportunity. He will discuss his recent successful strategies.
Wayne Morgan is the President of Community Heritage Ontario, is a professional heritage planner and has worked on successful historic projects like Toronto’s Distillery District. He will present on how communities can use their heritage assets to their advantage.
We will also feature a spotlight on two local properties and hear a presentation from Algonquin College on how communities can get involved with their heritage carpentry program.
Cost: $20 per person or $10 for students and includes lunch.

Take on Tatting – A Tatting Workshop

Learn the intricate skill of tatting with expert tatter, Tamara Taylor. This form of lace making is incredibly portable and creates a durable lace. This two part workshop session from 1pm to 3pm each afternoon and all materials are provided. The class size remains small to ensure each participant receives personalized instruction. Welcome Home Henderson Sisters

Wear red and white and join the Town of Smiths Falls in a celebration on Friday September 9th, to welcome their hometown golf pro Brooke Henderson back from the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janiero and to acknowledge the hard work and achievements of pro golf sisters Brooke and Brittany Henderson. The red and white themed celebrations will take place at Centennial Park, located on Confederation Drive Smiths Falls.
Mayor Shawn Pankow along with Town staff, welcomes everyone to join in the festivities. The celebration will get under way at 11:00 am with a live entertainment performance, and is scheduled to conclude at 2:00 pm.
In the event of heavy rain prior to or during the actual celebration ceremony, festivities will be moved to the Smiths Falls Memorial Community Centre.

Join us on our third stagger and stumble through town as the undead gather in support of our local food bank. We will be meeting up at Kinsmen Park. Between Town Hall and the Smiths Falls Library starting at 4pm for registration and food /monetary donation collection. We will head down Beckwith Street as a group then lurch over to Chambers Street ending at Smiths Falls Gym and Fitness Centre for treats and prizes! Coach Brian and his staff will be handing out hot chocolate and cookies donated by C’est Tout Bakery. We will be lead as a group and we will be travelling along the sidewalks. Please respect all traffic laws. **We have many prize ribbons to give out for both adults and children. A food item or cash donation must be presented at registration to participate in the judged contest. We are holding a 2km, a 5 km and a 10 km run/walk. Runs/walks start at 0800, with the 10 km starting first, followed shortly there after by the 5 km, and followed shortly thereafter by the 2 km. All distances start and end at Lower Reach Park in Smiths Falls, Ontario. There will be water and bananas available at the start/finish line. There will also be a water table at about every 3 km of both the 5k route and the 10k route.

What goes better with turkey than train rides? The Railway Museum of Eastern Ontario is serving up a Thanksgiving weekend like no other! Bring your friends and your out-of-town relatives for a special Thanksgiving train ride
Rides will take place Saturday October 8th and Sunday October 9th from 11 am to 3 pm. Climb aboard a 1940s caboose to discover what it’s like to be pulled by a first-generation diesel engine. A return trip down the track is $5 for 7 years or older, $3 for children 3-6 years & 2 and under ride free!
The museum will be open 10 am to 5 pm each day and admission to the museum is free Saturday and Sunday. The museum will be open Monday October 10th and will close for the season Tuesday October 11th.
This will also be your last chance this season to view our new exhibit: Lost Stations of Eastern Ontario.
This exciting exhibition details the fated history of the railways and their stations in Eastern Ontario as well as the important role that these stations played in the surrounding communities. Like many communities along the line, the railway was an integral part of life. Today much of what remains of the fated railway lines are of the lonely stations peeking out the overgrown rural countryside.
We invite you to come out to the museum on Thanksgiving weekend for some family fun!

“Bridging Hometown Pride with Heritage Assets”
The Smiths Falls Municipal Heritage Committee presents the 5th Annual Heritage Symposium. This year’s theme is “Bridging Hometown Pride with Heritage Assets” and will bring top speakers from across the province including:
Andrew Ross, who has turned his passion for historic bridges into more than 20 years’ experience designing, building and restoring bridges. He will be presenting on the Confederation Bridge.
Carl Bray, a historical consultant, believes that heritage is not an obstacle but an opportunity. He will discuss his recent successful strategies.
Wayne Morgan is the President of Community Heritage Ontario, is a professional heritage planner and has worked on successful historic projects like Toronto’s Distillery District. He will present on how communities can use their heritage assets to their advantage.
We will also feature a spotlight on two local properties and hear a presentation from Algonquin College on how communities can get involved with their heritage carpentry program.
Cost: $20 per person or $10 for students and includes lunch.

Welcome Home Henderson Sisters

Wear red and white and join the Town of Smiths Falls in a celebration on Friday September 9th, to welcome their hometown golf pro Brooke Henderson back from the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janiero and to acknowledge the hard work and achievements of pro golf sisters Brooke and Brittany Henderson. The red and white themed celebrations will take place at Centennial Park, located on Confederation Drive Smiths Falls.
Mayor Shawn Pankow along with Town staff, welcomes everyone to join in the festivities. The celebration will get under way at 11:00 am with a live entertainment performance, and is scheduled to conclude at 2:00 pm.
In the event of heavy rain prior to or during the actual celebration ceremony, festivities will be moved to the Smiths Falls Memorial Community Centre.
