Remembrance Day Ceremony

Finders Keepers Craft Show

The show borrows the concept from the hugely popular trunk shows in Europe. These in turn are a modern take on the travelling artisans of old who would go from town to town, showing off their wares in the trunks they used to carry them. In a nod to those bygone days, our vendors display their goods in vintage suitcases, trunks or toolboxes.
Being a smaller, boutique show, we are also the perfect venue for newcomers to dip their toes into the craft show scene, challenging seasoned vendors to get creative with their displays as well as providing the perfect venue to launch a new line or product.

Mudds Youth: King Lear

This year, the Mudds Youth are taking on one of Shakespeare’s most difficult plays: King Lear, the story of a king driven mad by the betrayal of his daughters. “It’s a great tragedy,” says Mark Piper. “By the end of the play, the stage is literally filled with dead bodies. My players love it! “Joking aside,” he concedes, “Lear is usually the apotheosis of a Shakespearean actor’s career — all of the parts are fully developed characters that present significant challenges for even the most seasoned actors: the betrayed king, the sad fool, three very different daughters, the man who can only truly see after he becomes blind, and his two warring sons. And my group — all teenagers — have taken these parts, and through a lot of hard work, have made them their own. It will be a real treat for the audience to see this new perspective on Lear. The Brett Pearson Run for Your Life at Carleton Place Town Hall

This event is held in memory of Carleton Place student Brett Pearson, who lost his life to suicide when he was 16. Participants have the option of a 5km walk or 5km run. Carleton Place resident Natasha Peterson debuts Gayle the Goose Goes Global, a children’s book that is both a feel good story & educational.
Gayle is a regular Canada Goose, except for one thing. She is directionally-challenged. When her frustrated flock flies away leaving Gayle behind at migration time, Gayle is forced to either sit back and wait for their return, or take matters into her own wings by migrating on her own. Gayle takes on the challenge of a lifetime, and migrates alone. While on her journey, Gayle visits many of Canadian greatest landmarks and learns that she can both survive and thrive on her own. When Gayle returns to share her adventures with the rest of her flock, the geese begin to wonder if her quirkiness may be just what the flock was missing. Perhaps a change from the ordinary routine would do them all a little good.
