Smiths Falls

What comes to mind when you picture our town?
Smiths Falls is the sound of the trickling water as it passes through the Rideau Canal on a hot summer day. Smiths Falls is walking through Lower Reach Park in the summer months and catching soccer or baseball game any day of the week. It’s smelling tulips in the air on Beckwith Street in the spring. It’s smiling and saying hello to people you know on the street.
It’s the screams of the diehard hockey fans in the Community Centre on a Friday night.
That is Smiths Falls. It’s who we are.
So, what does Smiths Falls mean to you?
It can mean different things to different people. To some, it’s just a town that was founded in 1786 that boasts incredible natural attractions, rich heritage and a strategic location to Canada’s biggest cities.
To the rest of us, it’s not just a place of residence. Smiths Falls is home to many people of different cultures and backgrounds, but we all have one thing in common: This is where we’ve all chosen to call home.
Everybody who lives and works in Smiths Falls provides a small piece to the bigger puzzle we call a community.
In small communities like Smiths Falls, people respect each other and collectively believe in the idea of supporting the local economy. Our home town is somewhere people help each other when they need it; a place where members are proud of where they live and strive to make sure everyone gets by.
Our community is a place where local artists, musicians, vendors, athletes, farmers and other community members can convene and contribute to something bigger.
We boast a large amount of passionate small business owners who are dedicated to making Smiths Falls better. They provide us with essential services and products and encourage us to shop locally.
Do you want to become more involved? Attend community events. Volunteer. Meet your neighbours. Buy locally. Join a club.
Communities are hand-made. A strong community is one that fosters the individual and makes them feel like they’re an important part of the master plan. Smiths Falls defines small town Canada, and we aren’t defined by our past. We can only live for right now, nourish what we have and make Smiths Falls everything we know it can be.
So what is Smiths Falls? It’s more than just a town. It’s a community.
It’s our home.
