Railway Museum opens for the season on May 21, new exhibit

On Saturday, May 21 and Sunday, May 22 the Railway Museum of Eastern Ontario will open for its 2016 season.  Visitors will be treated to the unique opportunity to ride the train from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. as well as view the new exhibit.  More information about weekend events can be found on the museum’s website.

This weekend will also mark the opening of the new exhibit, Lost Stations of Eastern Ontario. This exhibition details the history of railways and their stations in Eastern Ontario as well as the important role that these stations played in the surrounding communities.

Like many communities along the line, the railway was an integral part of life. Today much of what remains of the fated railway lines are of the lonely stations peeking out of the overgrown rural countryside. Some of the stations highlighted include: Carleton Place, Bedell, Forthon and Lavant & Wilbur.
